Don’t Lose Track of Your Money
When you spend money it’s important to keep track of it. Pocket change can fall out of your pocket or end up in the wash if you don’t remember it is there. If this happens, someone in your family may think the money is theirs. If you leave it sitting out, other people may make a mistake and think it belongs to them. That's why it's a good idea to keep your money in a safe place like a piggy bank or the credit union.
How Do They Do It?
Have you ever wondered how plastic bottles are recycled? A recycling plant uses seven steps to turn plastic trash into recycled plastic.
Step 1. The plastic trash is inspected for contaminants like rock, glass and for plastics that the plant cannot recycle.
Step 2. The plastic is then washed and chopped into flakes.
Step 3. If mixed plastics are being recycled, they are sorted in a flotation tank. Some types of plastic sink and others float.
Step 4. The plastic flakes are then dried in a tumble dryer.
Step 5. The dried flakes are fed into an extruder, where heat and pressure melt the plastic. Different types of plastics melt at different temperatures.
Step 6. Filtering is the next step. The molten plastic is forced through a fine screen to remove any contaminants. The molten plastic is then formed into strands.
Step 7. The strands are cooled in water, then chopped into uniform pellets. Manufacturing companies buy the plastic pellets from recyclers to make new products. Recycled plastics can be made into fences, flowerpots, lumber, carpeting and even lawn chairs.
